the fact that Vick's dogfighting was premeditated is the reason he got 2 years and Stallworth only got 30 days. Dogfighting is a felony in 49 states. (Idaho withstanding) Stallworth never planned on getting drunk and killing a person. Vick planned on killing dogs. The premeditation of the crime is the difference here.
So I guess if I went down to Brownies got drunk and shot some guy I would serve 30 days? Yet, if I train ****s and take them to a ****fight where they die I'll serve two years. Great system (paying off the family and all).
i don't think it's right what Stallworth got. He deserves at least 5 years.
Nobody has said it was right. If Vick could have payed his way out do you think he'd have served as long as he did? No. Stallworth was lucky to have enough money and a victim's family to buy off with it.
But if you want to get technical, pets and children are our silent majority. How many of both suffer all the time? They have nobody to speak for them. The guy had his family and lawyers to speak for him. He was unfortunate enough to have money blind his family to deserved justice.
Oh yeah, PETA sticks their nose in plenty of places it doesn't belong.
Good job bringing up Ray Lewis when he's the only one out of Adam Jones/Vick/Stallworth that had his charges dropped due to lack of evidence, and was only found guilty of obstruction of justice b/c he didn't testify against his co-defendants to start with. He didn't "make it rain", fight dogs, or drunkenly run over a construction worker at 7 in the morning.Quote:

He doesn't make any sense in this conversation. That'd be like me throwing Len Bias in the list of athletes that made bad decisions and deserved what they got.
I guess thats why he was sued $10 million in a wrongful death lawsuit? Then innocent Ray Ray paid off the family. Take off the U colored glasses.
Wrongful death suits are a no-win situation for a pro-athlete or even a high-profile person with money--forget the athlete part. Ray only paid when it was likely that his name would be dragged through the mud if everything went through a trial and he fought it. Sometimes $10 million or whatever the settlement ended up being, even for an innocent (but well-to-do) man is worth the ability to keep what name you have for yourself instead of letting people only out for money drag you down with them.Quote:

Call me nuckin futs, but if I were a member of a family and I knew w/o a shadow of doubt he killed one of my relatives--no amount of money would have kept me quiet w/o dragging him through a civil trial first and ruining his name forever.

the man put the money up for it, and let his friends, who he had known since birth, live on his land.
there was never any evidence besides hersay that vick was at any fights, or had any dogs that fought.
but because most americans are fukkin idiots, they think vick, a famous black athelete with money(thast the biggest part, its sad, but if vick was white, he would have served ZERO jail time) should spend years in jail while the people who trained the dogs and fought the dogs got NOTHING.

NEW YORK - Cleveland Browns receiver Donte’ Stallworth was indefinitely suspended by the NFL on Thursday for driving drunk and killing a pedestrian in Miami.
“The conduct reflected in your guilty plea resulted in the tragic loss of life and was inexcusable,” Commissioner Roger Goodell said in a letter to Stallworth.
“While the criminal justice system has determined the legal consequences of this incident, it is my responsibility as NFL commissioner to determine appropriate league discipline for your actions, which have caused irreparable harm to the victim and his family, your club, your fellow players and the NFL,” Goodell said.

Stallworth, who will not be paid during the suspension, pleaded guilty this month to a DUI manslaughter charge for striking Mario Reyes on March 14. He began serving a 30-day jail sentence Tuesday and has reached a financial settlement with the family of the 59-year-old construction worker.
After jail, Stallworth must serve two years of house arrest and spend eight years on probation. The house arrest provisions would allow him to play.
Goodell said that, eventually, he would contact Stallworth’s representatives before determining the length of the suspension.
“There is no reasonable dispute that your continued eligibility for participation at this time would undermine the integrity of and public confidence in our league,” Goodell said.
Browns general manager George Kokinis said in a statement: “We support the action taken by the commissioner today and will continue to work closely with the league regarding this matter.”
The player indefinitely suspended by the league was Adam “Pacman” Jones of the Dallas Cowboys in October 2008. However, that punishment turned into a six-week ban.
After a night drinking at a bar in Miami Beach’s Fountainebleau hotel, police said Stallworth hit Reyes, who was rushing to catch a bus after finishing work about 7:15 a.m. Stallworth told police he flashed his lights in an attempt to warn Reyes, who was not in a crosswalk when struck.
Stallworth, who stopped after the crash and reported the accident, had a blood-alcohol level well above Florida’s legal limit. Police estimated Stallworth was driving about 50 mph in a 40 mph zone.
Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle cited Stallworth’s cooperation and willingness to accept responsibility as factors in the plea deal. Rundle also said the Reyes family — particularly the victim’s 15-year-old daughter — wanted the case resolved.
Stallworth must undergo drug and alcohol testing. His driver’s license was suspended for life and he must perform 1,000 hours of community service.
Stallworth signed a seven-year, $35 million contract with the Browns before last season but was injured much of the year, finishing with 17 catches for 170 yards and a touchdown. The Tennessee college star has also played in the NFL for New England, Philadelphia and New Orleans.
The night before the crash, Stallworth earned a $4.5 million roster bonus from the Browns, whose offseason moves indicated they were not counting on him.
They added free-agent wide receiver David Patten this spring as protection and then drafted Ohio State’s Brian Robiskie and Georgia’s Mohamed Massaquoi. Patten is in his second stint with the club after stops in New Orleans, the New York Giants, New England and Washington.
The Browns also released receiver Joe Jurevicius three days before the accident.
